Choosing What to Paint

People often ask me how I choose what my next subject will be as I paint. To be honest, I sort of stumble onto projects. Sometimes I paint my dreams. Other times I stroll through old photographs. My least favorite way is to paint something for a particular location. I find it chokes my creativity for days.

Today i’ve decided to paint a bear sitting amongst Klimt background details. I foresee jewel colors, intricate geometric shapes layered and scattered across the canvas. Of course, a pensive bear will be the focus.
